That doesn't mean you've failed.

The Story
After more than a decade in leadership, diplomacy, and public service, I became a mother — and found myself wrestling with questions I didn't know how to answer. Who am I now? What does ambition mean here? What does success even look like anymore?
I'm Sarah Hoptman — a certified life coach, Foreign Service Officer, writer, preacher, and aspiring spiritual director. Compass Rose Direction was born from my own journey, and built for women walking a similar road.

You're a professional, a leader, an entrepreneur, a clergywoman — and a mother.
From the outside, your life probably looks successful. But somewhere between the meetings and the midnight feedings, the version of success you spent years working toward stopped fitting the life you're actually living.
You feel disconnected from who you were — and unsure who you're becoming.
Ambition, faith, vocation, and motherhood feel like they're pulling in different directions.
There are choices waiting — about work, family, purpose — and you need a trusted guide, not a quick fix.
The Compass Rose Approach
Together, we'll slow down long enough to untangle the competing priorities, expectations, and identities that often collide during life's biggest transitions.
Name what's changing.
Reconnect with yourself and what matters now.
Bring your life into alignment with your values, priorities, and calling.
Move forward with intention.
The Transformation
Not who you were before motherhood. Not who someone else expects you to be. A life with room for ambition and tenderness, faith and questions, leadership and rest.
A life where you no longer feel like you're choosing between the parts of yourself - but learning how they belong together.
Through coaching, spiritual direction, and thoughtful conversation, my clients move from feeling disconnected and uncertain to living with clarity, confidence, and a deep sense of alignment with the life they're actually meant to live.
"I came in trying to figure out my career. I left understanding myself — and the career questions answered themselves."
